World Population Day

11th July is observed as World Population Day – a day on which the international community works together to raise awareness about important issue like population explosion.  World population day is an international level awareness campaign being celebrated all over the world to call people on one stage to know the reason of exploding population year by year. Through this great awareness celebration, people are encouraged to take part in the event and to know about population issues like importance of family planning, gender equality, maternal and baby health, poverty, human rights, right to health etc. The awareness programme is started with activities like  seminar discussions,  educational information sessions, essay writing competition, public contests on various topics, poster distribution,  speeches, slogans, themes and messages distribution, workshops, lectures,  news distribution through press conferences,  news channels, relay of population related programmes  etc. Growing population is a cause of major concern because a world which is getting continuously crowded will have great repercussion on natural resources which sustain all living organisms. There is severe need to check this explosion and observance of World Population Day is just a step in this direction. The observance of this day is a ray of light towards the growth and development in the current time of ever growing population. The day has been celebrated every year since 1989, year of its announcement. Every year the celebration of World Population Day is based on a particular theme, decided by the United Nations.
The theme of 2015 is “Vulnerable Populations in Emergencies”.
